Body of missing 8-year-old Camp Mystic camper found: ‘She was tiny but mighty’

The body of a young Houston girl reported missing during the catastrophic flooding in Kerr County has been found.

Mary Kate Jacobe, 8, was at Camp Mystic, a Christian girls’ camp, when the area was hit by disastrous flooding on the morning of July 4.

Her death adds to the growing number of fatalities from the disaster that has devastated communities across the state.

“Our precious angel baby has entered the gates of Heaven. Mary Kate Jacobe was the light of our lives. She was tiny but mighty, full of love and joy with a smile that melted your heart,” family members shared in a statement. “Please know we truly appreciate the prayers and support so lovingly expressed by so many.”

More than 160 people are still believed to be missing, and at least 115 have died in the floods that hit the Hill Country region of Texas.

Five campers and a counselor from Camp Mystic are reportedly still missing.

“Our family extends our deepest sympathy to all those affected by the tragic flooding. We stand united by loss but rooted in love. May God be with you now and always,” the family shared.

Camp Mystic is an all-girls Christian summer camp. Sadly, officials said 27 campers and counselors are among those who did not survive the historic flood.

Rescue crews are continuing to dig through piles of debris that stretch for miles along the Guadalupe River in the search for the missing.

Chuck E. Cheese is launching a new arcade concept, one that will be focused on the adult crowd.

The iconic brand said it will be opening Chuck’s Arcade, an arcade designed for adults.

The new arcades will feature retro favorites like Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga, Mortal Kombat and Donkey Kong.

The space will also have state-of-the-art racing simulators and immersive virtual reality hits like Jurassic Park and Halo.

Additionally, each location will offer a lineup of animatronic characters like Chuck E. Cheese and members of Munch’s Make Believe Band.

“Chuck’s Arcade is a natural evolution — an opportunity to extend our arcade legacy into new formats that engage both lifelong fans and a new generation through a curated mix of retro classics and cutting-edge experiences," David McKillips, CEO of Chuck E. Cheese, said.

Currently, Chuck’s Arcade has nearly a dozen locations open in places like St. Petersburg, Florida, Oklahoma City and St. Louis, with more slated to open around the country.

“Every Chuck’s Arcade offers a unique environment, with a distinct lineup of today’s hottest games and a rotating mix of retro classics. No two locations are exactly alike,” the company shared in a news release.

Suspected DUI driver found with more than 70 empty Bud Light cans during traffic stop

Police in California say a driver has been arrested for DUI after failing a field sobriety test and driving with multiple empty beer cans in his vehicle.

According to the Cotati Police Department, officers conducted a traffic stop when they spotted a driver struggling to maintain their travel plans Sunday night.

Officers said they noticed the driver had an open container of alcohol in the cupholder, and after performing field sobriety tests, it was determined that the driver was more than three times the legal limit.

The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license due to a prior DUI charge.

Once the driver was arrested, officers said they found over 70 empty Bud Light cans in his SUV during a vehicle search.

“We want to remind everyone that drinking and driving is not worth it! The outcome could have been much worse had our officers not stopped the driver,” the department shared.

Authorities are reportedly investigating a Food Network star’s death as a possible overdose.

Anne Burrell, known for hosting Food Network series, including being the longtime co-host of “Worst Cooks in America,” died Tuesday at her home in New York. She was 55.

According to The New York Times, Burrell was discovered on the floor of her bathroom unresponsive and surrounded by about 100 assorted pills.

Officials said her cause of death remains pending further testing.

People reports that a person called 911 that morning, concerned that Burrell had suffered cardiac arrest. Emergency crews responded and pronounced her dead at the scene.

Burrell’s family is remembering her as “a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend.”

“Her smile lit up every room she entered,” family members shared in a statement. “Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”

Burrell is survived by her husband, Stuart Claxton, and his son, Javier, her mother, Marlene, her sister, Jane, and her children.

Father arrested after child dies in hot car while he got haircut, had drinks at bar: sheriff

Florida authorities say a father is facing charges in connection with the death of his young son.

According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, Scott Allen Gardner, 33, was arrested Thursday with the help of the Ormond Beach Police Department on Thursday.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said he is facing charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child and child neglect causing great bodily harm.

Gardner is accused of leaving his 18-month-old son Sebastian “helpless” in a hot truck for more than three hours on June 6, while he got a haircut and went drinking at Hanky Panky’s Lounge.

During an investigation into what happened, deputies said Gardner gave multiple false accounts of what occurred that day.

The sheriff’s office said that medical personnel estimated that Sebastian’s body temperature reached 111 degrees while inside the vehicle.

A police officer who was called to the scene tried to revive Sebastian but was unable to do so, authorities said.

Gardner was taken into police custody at his mother’s home in Ormond Beach.
