Former Los Angeles Dodgers great Davey Lopes has died.
The team announced his death on Wednesday while sending its support to Lopes’ loved ones.
“The Dodgers mourn the loss of Davey Lopes, who passed away today at age 80,” the Dodgers shared in a social media post. “Lopes was a member of the team’s record-setting infield of the 1970s and 1980s and one of the finest basestealers in MLB history. Our condolences go out to his family and friends.”
According to multiple reports, Lopes had been receiving treatment in his home state of Rhode Island at a hospital for Parkinson’s disease.
Lopes spent the majority of his 16-year career with the Dodgers and was a four-time All-Star second baseman.
No immediate cause of death was released for the World Series champion.
