Malcolm-Jamal Warner was apparently not alone when he drowned in Costa Rica over the weekend.

ABC News reports that the 54-year-old actor was swimming with his 8-year-old daughter when surfers spotted them struggling in the water.

According to police reports, one of the men dove in and brought the child back to safety on his board while a volunteer lifeguard pulled Warner and another surfer to shore.

Mike Geist, a lifeguard instructor at the beach and one of the men who helped in the rescue, said he started emergency care on Warner, but that was ineffective.

“There were two doctors who were also here just on vacation,” Geist said. “Between the three of them, they were able to perform CPR for more than 30 minutes, probably more like 45 minutes, and unfortunately, it was not successful.”

Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Department said the actor was on a beach on the Caribbean coast that Sunday afternoon. He was swimming at Playa Cocles in Limon province when a current pulled him deeper into the ocean.

Costa Rica authorities are calling Warner’s death an accidental drowning.

Warner worked for more than 40 years as an actor and director. He was best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on “The Cosby Show” during the 1980s and ‘90s.

His final credits came in TV guest roles, including a dramatic four-episode arc last year on the network procedural “9-1-1,” where he played a nurse who was a long-term survivor of a terrible fire.

Nashville, Tenn.

In-N-Out Burger is continuing its expansion plans into Tennessee, including its owner.

The much-loved California-based hamburger chain announced plans in 2023 of opening a corporate office in Tennessee, along with restaurants in and around Nashville.

This week, its billionaire owner and CEO, Lynsi Snyder, born and raised in California, said she will be trading her roots for a new life in Tennessee.

Snyder shared her love for California, along with why she’s leaving, in a recent “Relatable with Allie Beth Stuckey” podcast.

“We’re building an office in Franklin … I’m actually moving out there. I really loved living in Northern California, and I’m so thankful that I grew up there because I think it changed a lot of who I am today,“ Snyder is quoted as saying in the interview. ”I think I would be different if I were raised in Southern California. There are a lot of great things about California, but raising a family is not easy here. Doing business is not easy here."

Snyder said the bulk of the burger chain restaurants will continue to be in California, along with its headquarters. A new regional office will be opening in Franklin.

“It will be wonderful having an office … growing out there," Snyder said.

In-N-Out Burger currently has over 400 locations across eight states: California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Colorado and Idaho.

The burger chain said it plans to open its first Tennessee restaurants in 2026.

Fortune reports that In-N-Out Burger has a net worth of $7.3 billion.

Lacey, Wash.

Firefighters in Washington state revived a puppy with Narcan after a fentanyl overdose earlier this week.

The Lacey Fire Department District Three shared a post on Tuesday regarding the incident.

Lacey firefighters said a crew that day discovered a puppy “unresponsive inside a vehicle where fentanyl was present.”

Rescuers said they were to revive the pup thanks to their training and a small dose of Narcan.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, Narcan is a nasal spray that is used as a medication to treat narcotic drug overdoses.

“It’s not every day we use Narcan on a four-legged patient, but our teams are ready for just about anything,” firefighters shared.

CBS is ending “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” next year.

The reported cancellation will take effect in May 2026, the standard end of the broadcast TV season.

“We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retire The Late Show franchise at that time. We are proud that Stephen called CBS home. He and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late-night television,” CBS executives said in a statement.

Thursday’s announcement comes just days after Colbert spoke out against CBS Global settling with President Donald Trump over a “60 Minutes” story, The Associated Press reports.

However, CBS said the move “is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night” and “not related in any way to the show’s performance, content, or other matters happening at Paramount.”

Colbert also shared the news online and at his show taping on Thursday afternoon.

“Next year will be our last season,” Colbert is quoted as telling the audience. “The network will be ending our show in May. I don’t know if anything, anything, will repair my trust in this company.”

Oxford, England

Emma Watson has reportedly been banned from driving for six months after she was caught speeding in England.

CNN reports the “Harry Potter” star was caught driving her blue Audi at 38 mph in a 30 mph zone on July 31, 2024.

The 35-year-old reportedly did not appear for the brief hearing at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, where she was fined $1,400 and disqualified from driving.

BBC reports that the court heard Watson already had nine points on her license prior to the latest speeding incident, before making its ruling.

District Judge Arvind Sharma endorsed three further points for the latest offences, triggering an automatic six-month ban under UK law.

The British actress has been studying for a master’s degree in creative writing at the University of Oxford since 2023.

Watson rose to fame in 2001 with the release of the first “Harry Potter” film, where she starred alongside fellow child stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint.
