Spirit Airlines is reportedly preparing to shut down as early as 3 a.m. EST on Saturday.

According to multiple reports, the low-fare airline is planning to stop flying after failing to strike a deal for a financial lifeline from the Trump administration

Spirit has been dealing with reported financial struggles for years, including filing for bankruptcy just last year, and trying to secure $500 million to keep operations going.

Earlier on Friday, President Donald Trump said he was still weighing a taxpayer-funded takeover of the airline.

Trump said he would like to save jobs at the airline as his administration gave Spirit “a final proposal.”

The president added, “We’re looking at Spirit. If we can help them, we will. But we have to come first ... and it has to be a good deal.”

Officials did not immediately comment further on the situation or what a Spirit shutdown would mean for customers.

Authorities seize 50,000 dried shark fins at US ports, valued at more than $1 million

Officials with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service say the team seized thousands of dried shark fins across several U.S. ports.

According to the wildlife agency, about 50,000 shark fins were taken in from 20 shipments at ports, totaling more than 1,600 pounds and valued at over $1 million.

Inspectors say the first shipment was discovered in Anchorage, Alaska, which sparked a wider investigation. Their work led to the interception of additional shipments moving through Alaska, Kentucky and Ohio while the items were transiting from Mexico to Hong Kong.

The shipments were disguised as car parts found to be linked to a larger trafficking network.

The agency noted that the staggering number of fins was predominantly from silky sharks and bigeye thresher sharks, protected under the endangered species trade law.

All fins were seized for multiple violations of wildlife laws.

Officials said the violations have been shared with international partners to support appropriate enforcement actions.

The USFWS says a wildlife crime can be reported online.

Recall issued for chocolates containing potentially ‘life-threatening’ amounts of Viagra

Certain Gear Isle chocolate products are being recalled. (Food & Drug Administration)

A company that sells adult novelty products has voluntarily recalled two chocolate products.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall, saying the Gear Isle chocolates in question were found to contain potentially “life-threatening” amounts of prescription drug ingredients, sildenafil and tadalafil, that are commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction and found in Viagra.

The two products listed in the recall are Gold Lion Aphrodisiac Chocolate Male Enhancement Sachet and iLum Sex Chocolate Male Sexual Enhancement Booster.

According to the recall, the use of the products may pose a threat to consumers because the active ingredient may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs (such as nitroglycerin) and may cause a significant drop in blood pressure that may be life-threatening.

Both chocolates are sold as dietary supplements and were found to contain the “undeclared” pharmaceutical ingredients. According to the FDA, manufacturers of such supplements are responsible for ensuring the product’s safety.

Gear Isle said it is notifying its customers and arranging for returns and refunds of all recalled products. Consumers who have the products have been urged to stop using them and return them for a refund.

Consumers with questions regarding the recall can contact Gear Isle customer service at 888-387-4753.

Vacaville, Calif.

Police in California have arrested a man for driving under the influence after they say he was found passed out while behind the wheel of a moving autonomous vehicle.

According to the Vacaville Police Department, a resident called dispatch last Wednesday afternoon after seeing a driver appearing to be unconscious in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that was driving on its own through busy city streets.

The caller provided real-time details to police, allowing officers to find the man and stop the vehicle.

Police said they checked if the driver was having a medical emergency, but found him to be under the influence of both alcohol and marijuana.

Vacaville police said a Sutter Home Cabernet Sauvignon carrier and a box of Round Table Pizza were among the items seen in the man’s vehicle.

Authorities didn’t identify the driver or the car, but it can be seen as a Tesla model with the vehicle’s unique door handles shown in the department’s pictures.

Police warned that drivers are permitted to use newer assistive driving safety features in their vehicles. But they need to be conscious, alert and not under the influence while operating them.

Vacaville officers thanked the community for their help.
