Elkton, Md.
A trooper in Maryland is being credited with saving the life of a choking infant after a routine traffic stop quickly turned into an emergency.
According to Maryland State Police, Trooper Nicholas Warren is the law enforcement officer who helped to save the child on Valentine’s Day in Cecil County.
Warren, a seven-year veteran of the department, was conducting a traffic stop when another vehicle pulled up alongside and called out for assistance: “We need help. My baby is choking.”
Warren jumped into action by removing the infant from the vehicle to perform life-saving first aid.
The state trooper administered back blows for a few moments and removed the blockage. The baby then began to breathe again.
Emergency medical services personnel responded shortly after to evaluate the infant.
Authorities said Warren helped prevent what could have been a tragic outcome.
