Testimony continued this week in the murder trial of former “American Idol” contestant Caleb Flynn.
Flynn is accused of killing his wife, Ashley Flynn, earlier this year and staging the crime scene as a burglary to mislead investigators.
The 40-year-old has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, assault and tampering with evidence.
Ohio authorities said Ashley Flynn was found dead on Feb. 16 after officers received a report of a burglary and shooting at a Tipp City home.
Prosecutors allege Caleb Flynn was motivated to be with his then-mistress Alleigha Botner and shot his sleeping wife before altering the crime scene.
Botner took the stand during this week’s trial. She read aloud texts Caleb Flynn was said to have sent her during their year-and-a-half-long affair.
The texts were said to have included language in which Caleb Flynn mentioned wanting to kill his wife and said he would do so if he wouldn’t go to hell.
Botner told the court the pair exchanged more than 100,000 texts during their affair.
Caleb Flynn’s defense team has acknowledged the affair, but has said that does not make him a murderer.
His attorneys have also said they were disappointed in the earlier investigation, stating authorities seemingly rushed to judgment in the case.
Tipp City Police Chief Greg Adkins previously defended the investigation, saying it followed an investigative process.
Ashley Flynn worked as a middle school volleyball coach and substitute teacher. The couple also has two children.
