The White House is preparing to mail refund checks to nearly 1 million Americans whom the administration says were overcharged for Obamacare insurance.
The Treasury Department is said to be releasing $500 checks to more than 950,000 Americans in 30 states at the beginning of October.
“The Biden administration overcharged Americans through Obamacare plan exchange ‘user fees’ that were passed on to consumers,” The Trump Administration said when announcing the rebate checks.
The White House announced that those receiving refund checks did not receive premium assistance under the Affordable Care Act while paying full premiums in the 30 states that use the federal exchange for Obamacare.
The states listed include Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
“The government is going to pay the money directly to you,” the White House continued.
The refund checks will also reportedly contain letters signed by President Trump and are starting to be mailed out Thursday.
CNBC reports the largest number of refunds is expected to be issued for residents in Texas and Florida.
